Question Derek 2023/8/6(Sun) 16:17
I want to change a current compression spring made with DIN 17223 Grade D to JIS G3522 SWP B wire.
I see that SWP-B has very similar tensile strength at 0.5mm (DIN: 2480-2740N/mm^2, JIS: 2550-2790N/mm^2), but G(shear modulus) values are different (DIN: 8.15×10^4 N/mm^2, JIS: 7.85×10^4 N/mm^2)
Could you advise on other material differences that might affect the function onf the compression spring?

Dear Derek
Thank you for your inquiry.
The allowable stress of a coil spring made of DIN standard material may differ from that of a coil spring made of JIS standard material.
In JIS, JIS B2704 describes the allowable stress as a guideline.
In addition, in case of dynamic use, fatigue strength diagram is used to estimate the life,
The diagram may be different at that time.
In JIS standard, JIS B2704 lists the fatigue strength diagram.
