Question Swapnil Parkhad 2021/1/6(Wed) 14:57
How to check conical shape spring squareness ??
Please guide for the same and also give details regarding squareness check details

Dear Swapnil,
Thank you for your question!
Normally, the conical spring’s squareness is not measured.
However, we can measure the deviation between the small diameter and the large diameter of the spring with concentricity measurement.
In the case of compression coil springs, we can use a measurement tool (please see attachment for your reference) to measure the squareness.

Thanks for information…
Sir I am from spring industry we have measure squareness of conical spring by below method and formula
Method÷ putting big OD to surface and spring rotate with reference to bevel protector blades set at 90° and take minimum value and maximum value and derived from B below formula.
Formula÷(maximum value -minimum value)/2
This for your ready reference. Please let me know I am correct or not revert with your valuable feedback.
Thanks and regards

Dear Swapnil,
Our apologies for our late reply.
We’re afraid that the formula you apply only shows the difference between the coils’ diameter and it does not help determine the spring’s squareness.
Please also note that rather than squareness, concentricity is often used in the case of conical coil springs.

Thank you for your reply…
So, can I consider concentricity is equal to squareness is my conclusion right.
Below formula for your ready reference
Concentricity=Squareness=(Max.- Min)/2
Please revert with your valuable feedback.

Dear Swapnil,
We think that the formula is not applicable to concentricity. Normally, the concentricity of conical springs is determined by measurement.
