Question Spring Newbie

I recently watched it on TV somewhere…
When a big earthquake occurred, the houses shook a lot, but it seemed like there was a mechanism with springs that were attached to the pillars inside the house to reduce the vibration. It’s like the shaft cylinder (?) used for cars, and it seemed that the aim was to absorb the vibration even if the earthquake’s magnitude is as strong as the Great Hanshin Earthquake level using just springs. However, it can minimize the damage caused by earthquakes such as collapse. Are there springs that can be attached to houses for the same purpose? Also, is it possible to develop these kinds of springs and mechanisms in the future?

Thank you for writing to us, Spring Newbie!
You might have already often seen this mechanism being commercialized as the seismic isolation device that converts the vibration into heat energy. It seems that some of them are also introduced in the following link!
