Question Spring Newbie 2007/2/6(Tue) 15:44
I would like to know the service life of compression springs under dynamic load, but I can only find the calculation formula relating to the load. Do you know what conditions are applied for actual testing and measurement? I would like to know how long the lifespan is and how the deflection amount should be set. (Or is it not carried out in general? I’m a beginner in design, and I’m sorry for asking a lot of questions, but I’d appreciate it if you could help me answer them.

Thank you for writing to us! The durability test is usually performed, and the measurement is conducted repeatedly within the range of spring usage conditions. Most of the spring’s permanent deformation is the initial permanent deformation, so we measure the springs up to about 10,000 times.

Thank you for your reply. You said that “the measurement is conducted repeatedly within the range of spring usage conditions”. Wasn’t it something like an accelerated test? What kind of test should be performed when the speed of deformation is slow? Thank you in advance.

Hello! Accelerated tests are also available upon request. When you perform this test, you need to set a large stress amplitude range.
