Question Name 2015/2/16(Mon) 17:08
Please tell me about the spring material SUS631J1.
I need to use a torsion spring at high temperatures, but Inconel X750 is too expensive, so I’m looking for a cheap spring material. I think that SUS631J1 can be used at up to 340°C, but the temperature of the part where the spring is mounted rises to about 420°C after being heated with a heater. After that, when it stabilizes, the temperature settles down to about 350°C. Is it possible to use the SUS631J1 as spring material here without any problem?
By the way, the spring made of the piano wire is currently used and has worn out, so we are considering finding a substitute.

Thank you for your inquiry.
It is recommended to use SUS631J1 material (In this case, SUS631J1-WPC) at 300℃ or less. At 350 to 420°C, permanent deformation might occur. Considering the operating temperature range, Inconel X750 seems to be the best option. We hope this information is useful to you. If you have any questions about springs, please feel free to ask us!
