Question Chuo 2006/10/9(Mon) 12:02
Nice to meet you.
I found this when I was searching for springs. I’m thinking of making my own a flat spring, but when I asked the manufacturer, it was said that rubbing a brass plate with a thickness of about 0.5mm with a metal abrasive surface would make it a spring.
Could you please tell me why rubbing increases elasticity?

Thank you for writing to us, Mr. Chuo!
Generally, metal becomes hard when forged or rolled. Many spring materials are also rolled to make them hard. It is unlikely that the elasticity will increase as it becomes harder by rubbing the brass plate with a metal abresive surface, so maybe what the manufacturer wanted to say was forging or rolling the brass plate.
