Question Hiro 2007/5/10(Thu) 15:21
I always look for answers to my questions relating to springs here and thank you for this.
I have a question for you. Regarding SUS spring material, what is the difference between A and B in SUS304WPA and WPB? From the allowable stress diagram, it seems like B has higher allowable stress. In addition, SUS316WPA is shown in the allowable stress diagram as a wire material, but SUS316WPB is not shown. Does SUS316WPB have higher allowable stress like SUS304WPB? Can SUS316WPB be generally manufactured as wire material?
Thank you in advance for your reply.

Thank you for writing, Hiro!
The WPB material has a higher tensile strength value than the WPA material, so the allowable stress is also higher. However, since SUS316 is a material whose strength does not easily increase in terms of composition, JIS includes SUS316-WPA but not SUS316-WPB. Therefore, it is difficult to manufacture SUS316-WPB which is not standard.
