Question Zhuge Liang

Nice to meet you.

Is the maximum amount of deflection of volute springs the [free length-board width]?
Also, what should be the percentage of the maximum deflection? I mean regarding the load characteristics of volute springs, what is the percentage of allowable deflection when the spring constant is constant? What is the spring constant at that time?

By the way, the specifications are as follows.
Material: SUP10 Hardness: HB380-400, Upper inner diameter: φ85mm, Lower outer diameter: φ260mm, Free length: 330 ± 4mm, Total number of coils: 5, Number of active coils: 3.5, Plate thickness: 18mm, Plate width: 180mm

Thank you in advance for your reply.

*SUP10(EQ to 6150 by ASTM, 50CrV4 by DIN, 51CrV4 by ISO)

Answer Tokai Spring

Mr. Zhuge Liang, Thank you for writing! Regarding the dimensional specifications that you provided us with…

[Question 1] What is the percentage of allowable deflection when the spring constant is constant? [Answer] With the current dimensions, the total deflection is up to 60%. (Deflection amount: 89.7mm)

[Question 2] What is the spring constant at that time?
[Answer] Spring constant: 1487.3N / mm. “
