Answer Tokai Spring

Thank you for writing to us!
Regarding how to calculate the pitch angles of the conical coil springs, I think that the calculation formula for springs with coils in closed-contact or not can be the same. We are very sorry but it seems like there is no specific formula for this. Generally, the calculation is based on the assumption that the pitch of the coil spring is fixed.

Question Spring Newbie

I’m trying to design a conical coil spring, but I don’t know how to find the pitch angle.
Is the calculation formula different depending on whether the coil springs are in closed-contact or not? When the coil springs are in closed-contact, the center distance of the coils in closed-contact is calculated, and then the pitch angle can be calculated by back-calculation from the load formula. However, this calculation method cannot be used when the coils are not in closed-contact.
