Question Spring Newbie

Is there a way to calculate the surging of a flat spiral spring?

Answer Tokai Spring

Spring Newbie, thank you for posting!!!
Calculating flat spiral springs’ surging is a difficult task. Because there is only a formula to calculate the surging of compression springs. Since flat spiral springs do not have the same shape as compression springs, it is not possible to simply apply that surging calculation formula.

Example) The formula for calculating the general natural frequency of a vibration system consisting of the spring constant k and mass m (contact type and non-contact type), is shown below. We hope that you will refer to it!
If you know the specific shape of the flat spiral spring, you will be able to calculate it. (Of course, consulting is required)
The natural frequency Fn of the vibration system consisting of the spring constant k and mass m is expressed by the following formula.
in which Fn [Hz] is the natural frequency, k [N/m] is spring’s constant and m [kg] is mass.
