Question Weapon 2007/1/19(Fri) 15:16
I want to perform tempering for SUS304CSP-3/4H t = 0.4 [Small item in the photo], but because of the surrounding SUS parts and NI plated parts, the color after processing becomes the “camel color”. I do not hope that the color will be the same as the original, but I want the color after processing is as close to the original color as much as possible. I’m not thinking about other heat treatments because I want to improve the spring characteristics. For example, is it okay to perform pickling? On the Internet, there is something called austemper processing, and I have never seen the actual product before, but is this the ideal processing in this case?

Thank you for writing to us, Weapon!
Tempering in a non-oxidizing furnace helps prevent the formation of an oxide film. Pickling SUS304CSP-3/4H with a harmless acid (nitric acid) or barrel polishing can remove the oxide film too. By the way, please note that the austempering treatment is not a heat treatment for SUS304CSP-3/4H.
