Question Hide 2006/8/18(Fri) 16:16
I would like to ask a question.
Why do springs are coiled clockwise or counterclockwise? Is there a difference in the spring constant? In what application should I use which?
Thank you in advance for your reply.

Thank you for writing to us, Hide!
The spring constant is the same for clockwise and counterclockwise compression springs if they have the same dimensional specifications. (The spring constant does not depend on the coiling direction.)
Main-and-sub coil springs are used as clockwise and counterclockwise compression springs. (*Please refer to the attached drawing example).
This is used for the purpose of balance adjustment during compression by making the outer spring (main spring) clockwise and the inner spring (sub spring) counterclockwise.
