Question Kuma 2014/1/8(Wed) 18:57
I am sorry for such a sudden question, but I’m worried about whether or not to use the number of active coils in the drawing instruction as a reference value.
The spring we are going to design this time is a “compression coil spring”, and we are trying to specify the load and spring constant. Besides, we will also describe the effective number of coils and the total number of coils in the drawing, but when looking at JIS, there is a statement that the “reference value” is set for the total number of coils, not for the effective number of coils.
Also, when looking at the JIS drawing example, the total number of coils is a reference value, but the effective number of coils was indicated by a numerical value.
In this case, is there a tolerance range for the effective number of coils? Is there a reference value for it, like for the total number of coils?
I would like you to tell me about the actual way of thinking when designing a spring and I would only refer to the description method in the drawing as a reference.

Based on the content of the inquiry, if there is no tolerance, the total number of coils is ±0.25, and if there are tolerances in the spring specification such as the spring constant and load, it is a reference value. Tolerance is not usually set for the active number of coils. It is common to specify the tolerances in the required places, and if not, look for them in JIS B2704 (^.^).
Thank you!
