Question Spring Newbie 2017/11/24(Fri) 8:47
SUS304-WPB is a well-known spring material in Japan, but there is no material with this name in the United States. Instead, there is 304-V austenitic stainless steel for springs. Is it all right to think that they are the same? At the moment, a US company states the material 304-V in their drawing but since the name of the material is not available in Japan, I am looking for an alternative.

Thank you for your question, Spring Newbie!
Hm…, SUS304V is not a material that you often hear of.
It is guessed that V of 304V is an abbreviation for Vacuum Arc Remelted (VAR).
Maybe it is like SUS304 but manufactured by vacuum arc remelting?
It is stated in some documents that the main component is the same as SUS304, but it is said that molybdenum, copper, and cobalt are added in trace amounts.
My apologies as we do not understand the difference in mechanical properties.
Therefore, it may not be appropriate to treat SUS304-WPB as an equivalent material.
For reference, you can also check the website of Fort Wayne Metals
*SUS304(EQ to S30400 by ASTM, X5CrNi1810 by DIN, L-No6X5CrNi18-9 by ISO )
