Question Rai

I was asked by the manufacturer to change the compression spring of SUP9 material to SUP10. According to JIS, there is no difference in strength and both can be used as materials for compression springs, but could you please tell me the difference between them?

*SUP10(EQ to 6150 by ASTM, 50CrV4 by DIN, 51CrV4 by ISO)

Answer Tokai Spring

Thank you for your question, Rai!

SUP10 has a high resistance to temper softening, so even if the tempering temperature is raised, the strength does not decrease so much, it has high strength and excellent toughness.

Due to the chemical composition of SUP9, the tempering temperature must be low, so it is slightly inferior in terms of toughness.
